Narval

Narval, is another take of the unicorn simbolism idea of a previous illustration, Secrets. I went back to my older technique of making the digital painting seem more free and traditional-like, while still leaving some lineart. I´m experimenting a bit to try to decide where I pursue a cleaner style, or a more "traditional painting" style on my digital works.
The colors have more gradients and are better, unfurtunately, the blog format doesn´t help. You can see a better version at my deviantart account
Tools: black pen for initial lineart + photoshop+ tablet.

La Creacion de Eva

La Creación de Eva/ Eve's Creation

I tried to continue being careful creating a soft color pallete with some strokes of more saturated colors. It was also important in this picture to convey a sense of rythm and dancing from the way the curves related to each other.

Secretos

Secretos/Secrets
Continuing the series of illustrations, this time attempting to reach a middle-ground between something more graphic-designy and a proper digital painting. I worked very hard on the piece, specially to get the color pallete to be harmonious and the contrast relationships to be accurate. However, the file conversion from my photoshop file to a .PNG (JPEG´s quality was too bad, so it was quickly discarded) was a headache. I almost had to do 26 samples, before arriving to a decent result, and it has still lost a lot of the file quality and small gradients the original image had. Hopefully, this will not happen on the printing stage as well.
Regarding the concept, as you´ve probably noticed, I included  the lilies and the orchids again, since their meaning is quite opposite and appropiate to what I wanted to portray, alongside with the medieval simbolism of the unicorn.

Guadalupe

I tried to play around with a different color pallete this time, using more vibrant colors and a tropical atmosphere. I really wanted to portray a certain kind of feeling in this picture, but I am completely at a loss about how to describe it, but I hope you guys can see it through.

Lamento

I´ve always found art to be a better healer than time.

Continuing the series of illustrations for the event in June 2014. This was quite experimental and it was heavily edited from the inicial sketch. I am trying to make a dialogue with the drawing, to what it´s becoming, instead of imposing my own will completely to it.

The Other Side Page 1 Espanol English

First page of "The Other Side", my first colored comic work based on a story I had written some years ago. This time I also wanted to try out a different style, with rough lines , a limited color pallette and flat colors. I will also be attempting to upload it in both languages, english and spanish, since I would like non-spanish speakers to be able to read my personal work as well .Please take into consideration the translation from spanish is not exact, but I tried to keep it as close as I could to the original meaning.
Tools: mechanical pencil (no inking) + photoshop+ tablet+ illustrator (for the bubbles).

The Death of Virgin Mary

"Well I believe there's something watching over you
They're watching every single thing you say
And when you die they'll set you down and take you through
You'll realize one day(...)

We all live under the same sky
We all will live we all will die
There is no wrong
There is no right
The circle only has one side

We all try hard to live our lives in harmony
For fear of falling swiftly overboard
But life is both a major and minor key
Just open up the chord"
By Travis- "Side"

To stop, to remember, to continue

This was part of an university assignement were we had to create a picture inspired by objects of the past that were meaningful to us in the present.
The exercise of reading my old diaries (that I had written ten years ago), arose a lot of strong emotions in me. It made me realise that despite a lot of time has passed, and even if I have grown up to be a young adult, the way that I feel and I am through the years is basically the same.
Reagarding the technique, I struggled for something cleaner, brighter and neater than what I usually do in digital, but I am not very satisfied with the results.
Tools: Photoshop and tablet

Some days after the deadline, and having all the students delivered the assignment, all
the pictures were hang on the class walls for all the student body to see.And it was certainly
a very strange but rewarding experience having seen my pictured observed and questioned =).
Unfurtunately, I printed the piece as the real size darwing, (aprox 80 x 30 cm) and not
only did all the mistakes show on the print, but the laser printer at the shop changed the colors into this super saturated bright orange hues! I guess that was a lesson to learn from: always test your digital color before making an expensive print!

Lost In London

Another piece for the fashion vector illustrations series. This time I decided to practise a little with male fashion, since it is generally less taken into consideration than female. Before doing this, I investigated a little about what being a dandy meant in past centuries, so I wanted to make a modern version of it, but still keeping it elegant and pay a lot of attention to small details.
tools: Illustrator

Magnolia

Magnolia is part of a series of experimental fashion illustrations that I will be creating these days. I have been waiting for a while to have spare time to do this project so I hope it turns out very productive. This illustration is also my first vector, so it was really hard for me to try to learn a new program from scratch. Luckily, the internet comunity is quite helpful and kind to answer my questions every now and then, so I can overcome when I get too stuck using the new tools

Well, regarding the illustration itself, I tried to be a little experimental and use large amount of plain colours, and at the same time a little texture on the yellow flowers , and be stronger in the details of the jewlry and the hair curls, while still trying to achieve a classical aesthethic.
tools: traditional tools for sketch, adobe illustrator cs5 and adobe photoshop (to adjust levels of texture).

Eva

Inspired by a beautiful quote I read in September 2010, about Eve`s punishement and her curse to childbirth forever.
