I´ve always found art to be a better healer than time.

Continuing the series of illustrations for the event in June 2014. This was quite experimental and it was heavily edited from the inicial sketch. I am trying to make a dialogue with the drawing, to what it´s becoming, instead of imposing my own will completely to it.
Tools: black marker (sharpie), black pen, photoshop

This is part of a series of illustrations I am preparing for an upcoming event in June 2014. I tried to experiment quite a bit with the technique, and to return to my drawing roots, and to be attentive to line weight and color combination in a two-dimensional scheme.
Tools: black pen + photoshop, for coloring

Steampunk comic comission

First page

Pages two and three

"Sword, Sweat and Steam" is a three-page steampunk comic comission for Grayhaven´s Comics, written by Robert Mackenzie and David Walker and illustrated by me. This comic was REALLY challenging for me to draw, since it involved quite difficult page format to work with and I was undergoing some personal issues. But I tried my best, so I hope you enjoy it =)
Tools: Black pen, black markers, grey areas colored digitally.

Angeles meditando

This collage is part of a class assignment for university. I did it a couple of months ago, but I wasn´´t really sure if it was worth showing it in the blog. However, I have grown quite attached to it, so I decided to finally upload it. I had specially put attention to the color scheme and the concept.
Measurements: 45 x 57 cm
Collage out of magazine´s pictures.

This painting was really difficult , I had to change the woman´s face was many times before being pleased with it. The concept shifted along with the changes of the facial expression and the feelings I wanted to convey. I also tried to be to be more spontaneous with the brushstrokes and the color combination . By the way, the red - in one of the hands- is a little more subtle and really pasty in reality.

Tools: Oils in MDF

El Enigma de los Lirios

A comic done for a contest around january-february 2013. Situated in the late middle ages/early renaissance.
Done mostly in traditional tools, except for the large black areas that were painted digitally.

This is painting was done for a class assignement, in which we were allowed  freedom to use any technique, except oils. Unfurtunately, I had a terrible time with acrylics, specially in the beggining, towards the ending the painting got a little easier since I managed to learn how to blend the colors a bit more, with the help of an acrylic medium that acted as a retarder, and some youtube videos.
Tools: acrylics in cardboard , 46 x 57 cm

The Other Side Page 1 Espanol English

First page of "The Other Side", my first colored comic work based on a story I had written some years ago. This time I also wanted to try out a different style, with rough lines , a limited color pallette and flat colors. I will also be attempting to upload it in both languages, english and spanish, since I would like non-spanish speakers to be able to read my personal work as well .Please take into consideration the translation from spanish is not exact, but I tried to keep it as close as I could to the original meaning.
Tools: mechanical pencil (no inking) + photoshop+ tablet+ illustrator (for the bubbles).

Un être, qui n'était que lumière, or et gaze,
Terrasser l'énorme Satan;
Mais mon coeur, que jamais ne visite l'extase,
Est un théâtre où l'on attend
Toujours. toujours en vain, l'Etre aux ailes de gaze.

— Charles Baudelaire, "L'Irréparable", from "Fleurs du Mal"
The inscription in the painting are the three last lines.

Sueños de Papel Part 2

"Sueños de Papel" is a comic project started in the year 2010, the summer I left design university to follow full-time art studies. The thought that drove me the most to make the decision, was the fact that I had to fight for my dreams- as cliché and corny that might sound. What if one day I woke up with my whole life almost gone, only to realise I had never fought to achieve what I truly wanted? "Sueños de Papel" is about that feeling, about being in a life-turning point.

It was my first proper comic, and the first version can be found in this entry (http://rominasantanaart.blogspot.com/2011/12/suenos-de-papel-comic-pages.html) The first version was submitted for a local contest but it didn´t win. The more recent version (posted here) was submited for another contest in 2012. But it didn´t win either. That news were hard to swallow, but I´ve learned to let go of that bitterness. I think it`s important, to learn when things just don´t work and move on. And I´m not just talking about comics, it can be applied to any aspect of your life . You stand up again, and try. You fail. Try again. And again. There is always something new to create .

Chapter 1 of the second version of "Sueños de Papel"

Tools: ink, black pen + photoshop, to adjust contrast levels+ illustrator for
lettering and bubbles.
