La Caida

La Caída (The Fall)
Oils in MDF.
Measurements: 35 X 72cm

"Don´t break me down
I've been travelin' too long
I've been trying too hard
With one pretty song

I hear the birds on the summer breeze,
I drive fast, I am alone in the night
Been tryin' hard not to get into trouble,
but I, I've got a war in my mind
So, I just ride, just ride,

I just ride, just ride"

Guadalupe

I tried to play around with a different color pallete this time, using more vibrant colors and a tropical atmosphere. I really wanted to portray a certain kind of feeling in this picture, but I am completely at a loss about how to describe it, but I hope you guys can see it through.
Tools: black pen + photoshop
original drawing measured 54 x 34 cm

Lamento

I´ve always found art to be a better healer than time.

Continuing the series of illustrations for the event in June 2014. This was quite experimental and it was heavily edited from the inicial sketch. I am trying to make a dialogue with the drawing, to what it´s becoming, instead of imposing my own will completely to it.
Tools: black marker (sharpie), black pen, photoshop

The Other Side Page 1 Espanol English

First page of "The Other Side", my first colored comic work based on a story I had written some years ago. This time I also wanted to try out a different style, with rough lines , a limited color pallette and flat colors. I will also be attempting to upload it in both languages, english and spanish, since I would like non-spanish speakers to be able to read my personal work as well .Please take into consideration the translation from spanish is not exact, but I tried to keep it as close as I could to the original meaning.
Tools: mechanical pencil (no inking) + photoshop+ tablet+ illustrator (for the bubbles).

Thanatos

Un être, qui n'était que lumière, or et gaze,
Terrasser l'énorme Satan;
Mais mon coeur, que jamais ne visite l'extase,
Est un théâtre où l'on attend
Toujours. toujours en vain, l'Etre aux ailes de gaze.

— Charles Baudelaire, "L'Irréparable", from "Fleurs du Mal"
The inscription in the painting are the three last lines.

CD cover

Front cover

This a a cd cover for Maafaka, a new rap band of a high school friend. The making
of the cover was quite challenging, since I had to step out of my comfort zone, but overall I am pleased with the designs, and glad to have finally had the opportunity to work in a cd cover. (Something I have always wanted to do). Here is the link to their facebook site, so you can download the CD or buy it!

Portrait of Dolores Manci

This is a conceptual portrait of a classmate of mine. She is a very resillient person, who has to cope with a lot of troubles in her life, but still manages to care for other people, and be very brave, friendly and enthusiastic. I also wanted to portray her kids and grandson in the small boat and her husband in the rocks. There are some dates which refer to important events in her life. The beach is very menainful to her as well, so I chose to incorporate it too.I am very glad that the picture ended up in her hands

The Baptist

John The Baptist is probably one of the most mystical figures of the Bible. He is said to be the precursor or forerunner of Jesus and some branches of the christianism regard him as the reincarnation of the Old Testament`s Prophet, Elijah. It has been written that he was one of the purest and honest of men, and lived preaching and making the baptism ceremony in the Jordan River. .
This is an old painting I made during june-july in a more spiritual phase of my life, where I depicted the saint in a sort of religious extasis in the Jordan, travelling through the cosmos. In the left top corner you can see him preaching to a small crowd at the same time. There are also lilies the bottom right corner- a symbol of purity. The latin which is not very clear in the photo says "Vox Clamantis in Deserto".Tools: Oils in MDF 34 x 49cm

Detail.

A very kind man lend me this beautiful frame for an exbition at my art school
and an art gallery of a public hospital. The photo is quite poor, but
the frame fit the artwork very nice and helped convey the sacred quality I wanted to show.

Separation

"Separation" is about the lack of commuincation between fantasies and reality,
male and female, farytales and everyday activities (the fishermen). Is about the longing to belong.

An old painting that I did some months ago for university, but I could manage to take some
decent photos just now.
Tools: Oils in MDF
 approximately 40 x 40 cm.

To stop, to remember, to continue

This was part of an university assignement were we had to create a picture inspired by objects of the past that were meaningful to us in the present.
The exercise of reading my old diaries (that I had written ten years ago), arose a lot of strong emotions in me. It made me realise that despite a lot of time has passed, and even if I have grown up to be a young adult, the way that I feel and I am through the years is basically the same.
Reagarding the technique, I struggled for something cleaner, brighter and neater than what I usually do in digital, but I am not very satisfied with the results.
Tools: Photoshop and tablet

Some days after the deadline, and having all the students delivered the assignment, all
the pictures were hang on the class walls for all the student body to see.And it was certainly
a very strange but rewarding experience having seen my pictured observed and questioned =).
Unfurtunately, I printed the piece as the real size darwing, (aprox 80 x 30 cm) and not
only did all the mistakes show on the print, but the laser printer at the shop changed the colors into this super saturated bright orange hues! I guess that was a lesson to learn from: always test your digital color before making an expensive print!

Please, don´t...

An old experimental and emotional work for me. I tried to give that citylife feeling that I love so much, and that I feel specially when I travel to large metropolis. The watercolours helped with the expressive part, and I feel that I achived a lot of freedom I failed at other recent watercolors.
tools: watercolour tubes, and color pencils and white acrylic for details
