Desapego/Dettachment

During this  year, I have been committed to learning watercolors for good, something that was long overdue. This painting, is one in a series of small drawings I have been working to practise my watercolor techniques and to experiment with the drawing style as well.
With Dettachment I wanted to convey a feeling of separatness and fear of the outside world,  of inner confusion.

Este año decidí profundizar mi conocimiento de la pintura con acuarelas , algo que tenía pendiente hace bastante tiempo. Esta, es una de las primeras obras de una serie de pequeños dibujos que estoy realizando para practicar la técnica de la acuarela y experimentar con el estilo en el dibujo.
Desapego, intenta reflejar una situación de separación y miedo del mundo exterior, de confusión interna.

Lately, I've been trying to be more expressive in my work. I think is vital for anyone to be true to oneself, and I have chose this art path to be able to communicate things I am not able to say freely in "real" life. So, though I was reluctant to draw these kind of drawings at first, I´m glad I did. Not only is it good for experimenting and learning about shape and human form in another style, it also very cathartic and thus good for your inner balance.

Últimamente, estoy intentando ser más expresiva con mis trabajos. Creo que es esencial para todos ser sinceros con uno mismo, especialmente por medio del arte.Es un camino que he elegido para comunicar cosas que no puedo hacer por otras vías. Por eso, por más que me costó principio realizar dibujos como esté, estoy satisfecha con lo que logré transmitir.  Me siento que estoy en un nuevo camino  en el dibujo, que resulta importante técnicamente para explorar la forma y el cuerpo humano, pero también es muy catártico y bueno para mi equilibrio interior.

I wanted to convey the meaning of this piece with symbols I have using on my previous works. From the top to the bottom: two narwhals, on one side, a priest reading the gospel, on the other, a seamstress with a spinning wheel, on the bottom pigeons nesting with their small offspring.

Intente transmitir el significado de esta obra utilizando dimbología utilizzada en mis pinturas/dibujos anteriores. Desde arriba: dos narvales, en un lado, un sacerdote leyendo el Evangelio, en el otro lado una modista hilando en una rueca, en el borde inferior, gorriones en sus nidos con sus pichones.

Amor Vincit Omnia

This in an old piece that was really difficult, because of the color combination and the mixture of emotions I tried to show. I'm not sure I succeded, but I'm pretty pleased that i was able to come close with the concept I originally intended to. 

It was created for a Human Rights exhibition my workshop at university is currently working on. I tried to show more posstive feelings for a change, as I thought it was important to convey hope for the viewers of the exhibition as well as for myself. The latin phrase Amor Vincit Omnia, always reminds me to try to fight for inner peace and love for all humankind, specially for those who have hurted us very deeply. Is all about letting go of the hatred in the end.

Esta obra fue bastante difícil de lograr por la combinación de colores y la mezcla de emociones que quería mostrar. No sé si logré comunicar lo que tenía en mente, pero estoy satisfecha de haberme acercado al concepto original.
Esta pintura fue creada para una exposición  de Derechos Humanos que esta organizando el taller de mi Facultad. Pensé que sería bueno focalizarme en sentimientos positivos para variar, ya que me parece importante transmitir una sensación de esperanza, tanto para los espectadores de la muestra como para mi misma. La frase en latín del título Amor Vincit Omnia, me recuerdo a seguir buscando y luchando por alcanzar cierto nivel de paz interior, y de cultivar sentimientos de amor fraternos para los demás, especialmente aquellos que nos han lastimado profundamente. Se trata de dejar ir los sentimientos de odio al final de todo.

Claustrophobia

Claustrophobia

I had started with this painting back in 2013, but I left it unfinished due to a series of issues. Partly becuase it was technically too demanding, partly because the topic was quite emotionally challenging.

However, I´m pretty glad I´ve finally finished after a year.  Besides, apart form the piece itself, I think its an important artwork in connection with my other bird's paintings.

I apologize for the lack of resoluton with the photos but apparently my camera  doesn´t like to work well with paintings in darker colors.

Esta obra fue empezada en el 2013, pero la abandoné por un tiempo por varias razones. En parte porque técnicamente fue muy demandante y tampoco fue fácil emocionalmente enfrentarse a su temática. Estoy contenta de haberla podido concluirla un año después, no obstante. Me parece importante que, aparte de la obra en sí, como se relaciona con mis demás pinturas de pájaros.

 Me esforcé en sacarle las fotos pero realmente la cámara no capta bien las pinturas con colores oscuros.

This piece as well as other works like Despedida and Ofrenda, are drawings which I´m trying  to experiment more with anatomy, linework and concept. One of my art resolutions for this year is to try to be more honest and raw in my artworks, and to be more daring to show what I truly what to convey and not to be afraid about what others may think ( in a judgemental way, of course, constructive criticism will be always well received ).

I´m also studying Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt´s works, so you will definetely see some influences from their style as well.

Este dibujo al igual que Despedida y Ofrenda, forma parte de una serie en la que estoy buscando experimentar con la anatomía de los cuerpos, la línea , la forma y el significado. Una de mis resoluciones artísticas para este año es intentar ser más honesta en mis obras, y tener más coraje para mostrar mis emociones de una manera más crítica sin darle tanta importancia a lo que los demás puedan opinar al respecto ( de una manera enjuiciadora, la critica constructiva siempre es alentada y bienvenida ).
